Reading Classes

Author and Vanity Fair correspondent Dominick Dunne past away today.  I'm so saddened by this news.  I was riveted by his coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial in Vanity Fair.  Another sad loss today.

Reading Classes

If you haven't read this book I recommend checking it out.  It is a very easy read.  I got through it in like 3 hours yesterday.  I wanted to read it before the movie with SMG comes out and I'm glad I did.  It is, to me, a very subtle book, but with some beautiful and powerful moments.    Even though I think I've heard some major changes have been made I'm really looking forward to the movie now.  However, sadly, like all SMG productions lately there is no set release date.  IMDB says Novemeber but it wasn't in EW's fall movie preview so I don't know if November is for certain and the official website is only a preview right now.  Which bums me out.  Hopefully it will be released soon and with some press, unlike Suburban Girl, which ended up straight to DVD. :(

But the book is worth reading whether you want to see the movie or not.  Now I have another wonderful author to explore.

Buffy & Spike
I just read two fantastic Buffy/Spike stories by zennjenn over at fanfiction.net.  She is an amazing author who really writes the characters well and creates an engaging, believable world.  Both stories are post S7 Buffy and S4 Angel.  I highly recommend checking them.  The links to both are below.

So I belong to this Yahoo group called Freecycle.  If you haven't heard about the Freecycle movement, it consists of locally organized Yahoo groups where members can post messages giving away stuff for free.  You can also ask for items as well.  It's all about preventing more trash from going into landfills.  This was an actual post from today:

WANTED: chicken pox  (Pacific Grove, will travel!)

Sat Jan 17, 2009 3:02 pm (PST)

We've got a few kids who are getting older and haven't had it yet.
Could they play with your infected kids for a bit so we can take care
of this?

Thank you!

   **************************************************************************************************************************************

It's hilarious and yet scary at the same time.  I'm really hoping it is some kind of joke or prank because it is just too crazy!  I have never seen anything like this before and I've been doing Freecycle for a year, in 2 different locations.

Btw, if you interested, it is a fantastic program.  Just go to www.freecycle.org to see if there is a group for your area.

Pushing Daisies & other TV

Big {hug} of empathy to anyone on my flist who watches Pusing Daisies.  It totally sucks to have a favorite show you're passionate about canceled.  It was never a show I could get in to but I know tons of people who loved it.  It will be interesting to see if Bryan Fuller goes on to something else or does return to Heroes.

Speaking of Heroes, I'm going to add my brief 2 cents on this week's episode...Read more...(spoilers) )

Why the CW network needs to hire me

  • Nov. 15th, 2008 at 12:38 PM
Need some sleep

So I was reading on tvguide.com the other day that the two independently produced shows  - Valentine and Easy Money - that the CW has been showing on Sunday nights have shut down production and are effectively canceled.  Which doesn't surprise me.  But then I started thinking about what the CW shoud do with their Sunday nights (weird, I know) and I feel I had a pretty ingenious idea - Sundy night movie!

The CW could totally bring back the Sunday night movie, but in a totally awesome way.  They could have the talked about Veronica Mars movie. They could do their own take-off of High School Musical. They could let their own current shows have a special event movie.  I've also always thought Fray would make a kick-ass movie and even better would be like 3 part mini-series.

So if anyone knows a CW executive, feel free to pass my idea along.  LOL

Saw the new James Bond movie last night.  Spoilers behind cut...

So a new post to go with a new theme.  I love my new them because it fits my new life too. :)

Ok, so anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the new TV season?  I seriously have not been this excited in ages about so many shows and there are so many I can't even watch because of timing conflict.  Since when did Monday night become the hot night for TV?  On top of that I've started graduate school so I have no business like literally having a dozen shows to keep up on.  Thank goodness this is the age of DVR's and DVD's.

(Spoilers for Bones and a little bit of 90210.  Other shows mentioned, but no spoilers.)

All of these Top 5 lists got my mind wandering and somehow I began to think about which of the current crop of television shows each of the Buffy characters might watch.  So here's my attempt at a list for the fun of it.  Feel free to throw out your own thoughts. :)

Shake, Rattle & Roll!

Apparently Illinois is trying to prepare me for my move next month to Northern California with an earthquake. LOL  It is so trippy to think that A) I experienced  my first earthquke today and B) it was in ILLINOIS!  Not California.  Crazy!

I was woken this morning at around 4:45 am by a shaking bed and at first I totally couldn't figure out what was going on.  Then I thought "Earthquake!"  Which turned into " Wait no. This is Chicago.  We don't get earthquakes."  Meanwhile, the bed in the apartment above mine continued to bang against the wall for like 15-30 seconds longer.  So then I thought, "Wow!  My upstairs neighbor must be having some really rough sex to make my bed shake too." (Hey!  It was 4:45 am and I had just woken up.  lol) [I told that thought to my mom and she cracked-up.]

However, when I woke up for good 45 minutes later and turned on the WGN morning news sure enough it had been an earthquake.  I totally couldn't believe it.  Of course all the morning news programs managed to continuously beat that dead horse all morning.  I know it was a big deal, but at a certain point by 6:30 am they really didn't know much more than at 5:30 am and they could have moved on to other news. Gotta love our media.
